Carli Notley-Adby, Photography

I'm Carli, and I'm a photographer and business owner

Describe your job

I’m a commercial people photographer and visual creative that loves to work with others to create something that represents them, which helps them or their business, speaks to their customers or followers and who wants to use photography and creative direction to ask questions, elevate conversations, champion other women and dissect social or personal stories. I just want to tell stories, have fun, be brave and get involved with as many people as possible!

Normally this involves working commercially alongside business’s or agencies to look at a specific project or re brand, product launch or campaign and seeing how I can help with creative vision, shoot production and then photography.

I love it!

What are the most important skills you need to do your job?

  1. People

  2. Patience

  3. Ability to think quickly

  4. Being resourceful

Before I started my career, I wish I knew…

That you have to keep the heart happy too

Don't just train in all the things you think you should, but make time for the really personal passion subjects or creative bits too. That is what keeps things alive and fresh and motivates you, and stops you getting caught or overwhelmed by the everyday.

A mistake I made which you can avoid repeating is...

Share more of the behind the scenes or your personal journey involved in running a business / creating a brand alongside life, work, family etc.

So, what’s next?

Who knows! Places of new discovery, places that scare and challenge me and push my personal practice.

I hope my commercial projects might become increasingly part of my personal work so there is no ‘boundary’ so to speak and I hope to champion and connect with more and more courageous women!
